Anyone who is any kind of Disney regular will know that breakfast is not only the most important meal of the day, but it’s also the best!! You need a good breakfast to prepare for a crazy park day and Disney offers lots of options. Disney World is famous for their variety of breakfast experiences, in both parks and resorts, and their trademark Mickey waffles. I jumped at the chance to try some for myself at the buffet breakfast at The Wave at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

The Wave…of American Flavours (fondly known as just The Wave) is described by Disney as a casual eatery serving American style cooking, infused with flavours from around the world. The entrance to The Wave is located in the Contemporary Resort’s stylish lobby and is easily accessible from the main entrance and the theme park bus stops.

For breakfast they offer both an a la carte menu and a buffet option. On arrival the chef talked me through my options, and told me I could order from the a la carte or eat from the buffet. If I chose the buffet he could bring me some gluten free goodies such as toast, muffins, doughnuts and of course the famous Mickey Waffles!! He walked me around the buffet and I could have everything except from the obvious stuff like the granola and the pastries so, since he could bring me pastries anyway, I decided to have the buffet and asked the chef for a chocolate chip muffin and some waffles.

The highlight about breakfast at Walt Disney World is always getting to feel like everyone else at the table and have real treats like muffins and waffles. It’s so nice to be able to eat the same things as your friends and family, and of course they come out specially made from the kitchen by the chef with an allergy stick so you feel totally safe eating them.

I really enjoyed my breakfast here and have been a couple of times since. I always had the same thing but it’s breakfast and you don’t need much variety, especially at a buffet where you can have fresh fruit and yogurt, breakfast meats and pastries all for the same price! The Wave is one of the more reasonably priced breakfast locations with most items on the a la carte around the $10 mark – although the most expensive option, a 4-oz Tenderloin Filet topped with Choron Sauce served alongside Wave Breakfast Potatoes, is a whopping $16.99. Although there aren’t any characters at this particular breakfast experience (you could always go upstairs to Chef Mickey’s for your character fix), The Wave is a perfect location for a relaxed family breakfast.
