Recently we visited La Vita in Bishopbriggs to celebrate a friends birthday. We have been to their Spuntini restaurant in the West End a few times and I was looking forward to trying another one of their locations.
La Vita is a family owned chain and the Bishopbriggs location is the original restaurant. The family also own a La Vita in George Square in Glasgow, two La Vita Spuntini restaurants (serving a selection of small plates and sharing dishes) and a location in Newton Mearns.
The restaurant is lovely – it seems small at first glance but has three floors of tables. We were seated upstairs and, as a large party, had almost the whole floor to ourselves.
The menu lists all the items that are gluten free and there’s a really good selection across the whole menu. I was slightly disappointed at first glance that only two of the starter options can be made gluten free but they can do gluten free bread which means some things can be adapted.

I ordered gluten free garlic bread to start and the portion was huge (four slices!!) In future, I would order this to share. Garlic bread is one of the things I miss most and it was really nice to be able to enjoy this in a restaurant. My boyfriend had the bruschetta which you would be able to get with the gluten free bread.
The menu states that they can serve gluten free pasta with the main pasta dishes but not the speciality pastas. The risottos are also gluten free, but sadly they aren’t able to do a gluten free pizza. Gluten free chips fried in a dedicated fryer are available.
I ordered the Piccante dish – pasta served with pepperoni, red peppers and red onion in a cream and tomato sauce. The gluten free pasta was fusilli and the dish was delicious. It’s probably up there with my top pasta dishes. Unfortunately I was so full from my garlic bread that I couldn’t finish it. I’ve been regretting not taking my leftovers home in a doggy bag!

The dessert menu doesn’t show any gluten free options so you would have to ask. I was too full to even think about it but they do have ice cream so I’d imagine that would be a safe option as long as you specified no wafer.
The staff were great the whole time we were in and dealt with our party of twenty very well. I’d definitely consider going back to this La Vita if we were over that side of the city and will be making plans to visit the city centre chain soon.
Have you been to one of the La Vita restaurants? Let me know what you thought!
