Eating In: Amy’s Kitchen Mac and Cheese

Having just left my student life behind, I still nurse a soft spot for ready meals. OK, so they aren’t as good as home cooked meals but they’re fast and easy to make which is perfect for me since I often start work at 5 and just need a quick meal before I leave the house to get me through the evening.

So far I haven’t had much luck in the gluten free ready meal department, but in the free from freezer section in Asda I found this little gem – Amy’s Kitchen Rice Mac and Cheese.

I was a bitĀ scepticalĀ at first, fearing it would be along the lines of Kraft’s Cheesy Pasta, but I’m trying to be braver with foods and thought it couldn’t hurt to try (although I did buy a back up pizza in case the mac and cheese was horrible!!!)

Amy’s Kitchen is a family business started in 1987 and they produce a wide range of vegetarian meals, many of them now gluten free. In 2010, the first UK factory of Amy’s Kitchen opened due to the huge demand from customers who had lived in the US at some point and wanted the same products over here.

I thought the mac and cheese was absolutely delicious. It was probably the best microwavable macaroni and cheese I have ever had – and I’ve had a lot of microwavable mac and cheese! I’ll definitely be buying this again at some point, it was tasty and filling and only took about 6-8 minutes in the microwave.

Hopefully I’ll continue on this brave streak and maybe try some more Amy’s Kitchen products – I’m not the biggest fan of most vegetarian foods but I think I need to widen my tastes now because of these restrictions on my diet. If you’ve tried one or have anything to recommend then let me know!

Thanks for the great product Amy’s Kitchen! Check out their website HERE.

I’m not usually keen on ready meals, but as an emergency meal, I love the burritos by Amy’s kitchen. The cheesy one is much better than the dairy free one though, for those who can have it!
